Really good and entertaining film by Adam McKay! I love his stuff, including this one! I remember thinking that this was a crazy perfect movie! Bale is on another planet, he's a ridiculously amazing actor. The cast was solid, but Bale steals it. Great watch, highly recommend this one!
The film is light on data/facts & makes unsubstantiated claims. The take away is Republican politicians including Cheney are schemers, greedy, and basically evil. In essence, a Democrat promotional film. I very much worry that people will watch this film and assume that it is accurate.
Wildly uneven biopic of Dick Cheney. The make-up dept. gives the greatest performance. A better title would've been "Dick." I was surprised he had so many heart attacks because, well, I guess that means he has a heart. To the dissenters, it's not "liberal propaganda" if it's true.
a half hour was too big a slice of the unwatchable lead character; just say no.
Almost makes one feel that the outcome is to create a situation where a US president is above the law and can do whatever he/she wishes without consequence. Bravo.
Outstanding makeup. The film is far too light on data/facts; it just glosses the surface and makes unsubstantiated claims.
Again - the strongest feature is the way in which Bale was transformed into Cheney.
Interesting Hollywood-ized political enlightenment. It give you something to think about ...
Regardless of one's political persuasion, Vice is an entertaining movie that uses some creative and amusing devices to address the fact that the screenwriter really doesn't know what went on in many meetings. What is fact, what is informed speculation, and what is pure fiction? There are some captions that provide context, but the movie would have more impact if what is known to be true was clearly indicated. Christian Bale is brilliant as the taciturn, contained Cheney. The scene where four powerful men are offered a menu of right wing policies by a waiter is hilarious. However, House of Cards does Power in Washington so much better.
This is a movie with lots of funny bits but its not a fun movie overall. Watching such a self-serving, greedy, power-hungry person ascend to such a position of influence was pretty bleak. It's a very good film. Christian Bale as Dick Cheney and Sam Rockwell as George Bush were both outstanding. It is horrible to watch someone who was chosen to lead by the people and supposedly represents "the people" but has zero interest in actually helping "the people" at all but is only out for himself and to know the whole time that is a true and that it is still happening all over the world. It's a very entertaining yet disturbing film.
Excellent portrayal of the completely greedy, power-hungry, self-serving liar we foolishly gave such unlimited power. Everyone should watch this & open their eyes.
Contrary to the comments posted regarding the subject matter, Cheney and his power hungry wife were only in the game for personal gain. His actions had nothing to do with protecting the American people, his sincerity a facade and nothing more. It was all about protecting American oil assets, especially those owned by Haliburton. You have to go beyond your emotions to get to the truth.
Aside from everyone taking political sides about this film, Adam McKay did an excellent writing and directing job, as did all the actors in their roles, most notably Christian Bale as Cheney. He nailed Cheney, bravo!
The ego of men! I wasn't going to watch this and thought it would be boring. I was so wrong everyone should be watching it. Top Notch acting! I am so glad that big name stars decided to produce this film. Extremely interesting and told in a way that is easy to watch.
Written and directed by Adam McKay in 2018, this American docudrama depicts the life and ambition of former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney.
Despite a clumsy display of political hatred as well as a wierd sense of black humor, the film turns out an enjoyable piece of entertainment with excellent performances of Christian Bale as Dick Cheney and Amy Adams as his wife.
Since I was alive during the early years of Dick Chaney, I could tell how the movie was going. It totally had an elite Hollywood bias and tried to turn him into a crazy , power hungry person. Google his life and you will see how Hollywood twisted the true story using actual facts but misconstruing his motives. We did not attack IRAQ for revenge or OIL...the US and over 25 nations gave SADDAM many ultimatums(over 2 years) to expose his nuclear and chemical weapons programs. He knew the US , since Ronald Regan, was all threat and no action. and gambled that the world would back down. We found out later he shipped his chemical weapons to Syria before war started. We called his bluff, and yet people still say to this day that we should have backed down, or that we did it for OIL,,, we actually stopped thousands of oil well fires and saved the fields, and gave them back to IRAQ after the war. Very entertaining movie,,, too bad it was littered with false conspiracy ideas of Hollywood writers.
the action and acting was great but the storyline had to follow- not sure if I got the full picture- normally I'd watch a film again but already was too long. basically watch the trailer most of what's in the film is there
Admittedly I am a centrist politically, or maybe a couple of degrees left of that, so a satire that targets a Republican politician who had an important role in the US attacking Iraq for clearly spurious and self-seeking reasons, causing the deaths and ruined lives of thousands of coalition military personnel and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, creating a hell of Iraq and fostering the conditions that fuelled ISIS, is not likely to offend me ideologically. It is also not surprising that those on the opposite wing of the political spectrum would dislike it, regardless of its worth. But to label it "garbage" or based on fundamental untruths is just silly. Just as silly as believing that Saddam Hussein was in some way responsible for the heinous act of terrorism that was 9/11. Great movie with some interesting narrative techniques. Christian Bale is truly great in the role. Loved this film!
Amazing transformation by Christian Bale, who even got cheney's condescending little smirk down PERFECTLY. Everyone else was OK but he was the only one that embodied their counterpart.
That said, cheney is a war criminal who was only able to hold on to the Most Corrupt Person Ever trophy until traitor trump took it away the instant he was sworn in.
This movie is bonkers. I loved it.
The Republican party has been nothing but liars and con men since Nixon. The GOP only cares about making the rich richer. They are willing to destroy our environment, kill our soldiers in worthless and endless wars, and make the middle class and poor work multiple jobs just to scrape by - all for money. Unregulated Capitalism is just as bad as Communism but they do not teach that in schools.
This film bothers me. Yes, Cheney was probably the most powerful and influential VP in recent American history but all of the credible books I have read on Bush's presidency deny the rumour that Cheney was a "puppet master." Cheney is not an endearing guy and his paranoia about the next big terrorist attack to hit the USA gave him the resolve to do some questionable things: the war in Iraq and the surveillance of citizens' private communications being the best known.
Normally I can enjoy a film, even when not accurate, if the acting is good and the film overall is entertaining. However, the propaganda and fudging of the truth in this film just annoyed me too much. In my view, films are more dangerous than books. Movies require far less investment of time and brain activity to consume than do books. Not to mention that images tend to remain in the mind far longer than anything we read. I worry that people will watch this film and assume that it is accurate.
This is more of a documentary about Dick Cheney and how he kissed up to the powerful politicians until he became powerful himself. According to this true event documentary, Dick was actually the puppet master and Bush was just the puppet. The true reason why the USA invaded Iraq was strictly for the oil. it was also Dick Cheney who changed global warming into climate change so they could snow the public as climate change does not have the same emphasis as global warming. Buzz words that politicians use to manipulate the public for control. During Cheney's political career he became very wealthy as the American people became poorer which all you have to do is look at the USA debt clock. He was also responsible for basically legalizing torture which was against the Geneva Convention. Cheney and his hoodlums would spend time together trying to figure ways to twist the written word to fit their cause. They even went as far to intercept emails and messages sent to the different departments in which the censured it so as not to have any friction or anyone against them while bush was in power. Apparently all these emails and messages have been lost forever. The documentary Vice really shows what can happen when a self serving individual happens to get into power.
" (CNN) -- Former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage acknowledged Thursday that he was the source who first revealed the identity of CIA officer Valerie Plame to syndicated columnist Robert Novak back in 2003, touching off a federal investigation."
The above tells enough about any "accuracy" in the film. There are some interesting moments and gives insights on how liberals view history (through a lens of hate). Not as a funny as a SNL skit and about as factual. If you are a leftist you will probably enjoy it as it plays to your world view.
Well written, well acted, but whether you like the story is another question.
