(*Lyrics excerpt*) - "Goo Goo G'Joob!"

I think that a more appropriate title for this Beatles' vanity production would have been - "Tragical Misery Tour".

IMO - This truly disappointing "tour" was an appalling example of some of the lamest attempts at psychedelia that I have ever seen.

Thankfully this psychedelic misfire was only 53 minutes long.

I'd say that the title of the Beatles' song "The Fool on the Hill" pretty much sums up this fiasco in a nutshell.

This picture might have been considered "cool" and "groovy" back in 1967 - But, today - 50 years later - It sucks, big-time.

Regardless of it starring the Beatles - People really need to take off those rose-coloured glasses when viewing this one.

Not sure why folks here feel the need to write the entire history of this film ... other than trying to show us all what a smart Beatles buff you it has little to do with the film itself. Look, if you like The Beatles chances are you have already seen this film and know the back story as well. If not, then here you go: this is a weird movie along the lines of Eraserhead or Blue Velvet that combines a sort of improv story with vivid images...only this one includes a great soundtrack to go along. The thin plot is basically putting a bunch of strange folks together with The Beatles on a bus and driving around the countryside to see what happens. Yep.. I agree. Gone With the Wind it ain't. But what it is, is a look at late 60's video art and if you were around back then, you will recognize the style... It only runs about 50 minutes so doesn't require much commitment but it is a lot of fun. It does require some imagination, a bit of whimsy and maybe a toke or two. But it is worth it...

this film is mostly paul's idea, so don't blame the other three. it's inspired by ken kesey, and his gang who drove a psychedelic painted schoolbus across country to meet timothy leary, and Richard Alpert (later, baba ram dass). those two were the psychologist-experimentalists in residence at Harvard college. magical mystery tour was also done in the spirit of the Beats, a counterculture movement from the 50s. so, there's much improvisation here..sometimes I get the idea this is a tmi machine: it is always timing me out. well, loose lips sink ships , and eventually discourage sailing. and the so-called tech staff, the experts, have mastered their use of clichés to disguise their inability to help most issues. the film was shown in black and white on the telly in Britain, hard to understand that, as there is quite vivid coloration here (especially during George's song, Blue Jay Way). if you like the later stuff they released, this dvd is a must see. the feeling here is that this is so old, therefore, unknown, so let's give the young ones and the new ones to this culture, a clue with which to go on. if you give this hot mess of a film 4and a half stars, you must be real easy, if you know what I mean, and I think that you do. p.s. john using a pitchfork to feed the fat lady more and more spaghetti from a bucket while dressed like an Italian waiter, is a priceless sight gag, if nothing else. p.p.s. I'M EASY, by Keith Carradine.

Even for a Beatles fan, this is a hard day's watching. it's poorly framed, there is no plot, and even the songs are staged in a way that sheds any light. Not recommended.

The movie isn't very good, but I enjoyed the Beatles' music.

Yes, the movie is cheaply made and amateurish, but I really don't care, because spliced in between the poor "acting," silly scenes, blurry photography etc is the pure magic of seeing the Beatles performing some of the greatest music ever written. When, the songs start, my heart still jumps, and I forget about the filler in between. In all fairness, this was an experiment for the Beatles; if the cinematic part of the experiment failed, what matters is that the music succeeded beyond all.

Most preople know the story behind this, the last of the Beatles feature films. In all likelihood, the making of this movie was one of the factors that led to the end the Beatles as a group. MMT was Paul's idea. he wanted to do a movie without a scrpit. The movie reflects the unstructured outcome Paul was aiming for. Unfortunately, the movie is lacking in The Fab Four Magical Mystery Tour chemistry we had so much admired & enjoyed, up to this time. The soundtrack was 7 still is remarkable. it's sort of a greatest hits of enduring songs. They in & of themselves are the TOUR & Magic witha Sense of Mystery that came out of this movie. If you venture into the veiwing of the movie, Keep in maind the nature of the concept & enjoy the music. After filming was a wrap, so were the Beatles. they were rarely seen in the recording studio (Apple records) together again. Let It Be & The White Album found them recording on their own or with their friends, rather than together. Abbey Road was their last alnum together & an attempt @ making 'one for the road.' It's my favorite Beatles album. Let It Be, was just that... Them letting it be & going their seperapte ways. The Magical Mystery Tour had given way to Their Adulthood lives & the memories we now cherish just like Yesterday; seems like all my troubles were so far away... "On behalf of me & the boys, We hope we passed the audition..."
