this movie totally sucks. the plot deviates away from the original in a way that is implausible. the acting sucks and it is clearly trying to make this another way to rip off hardworking americans at the boxoffice. don't get fooled by a third movie in this franchise.

Sequel to the 2013 Pacific Rim pilot that introduced the future world of Kaijus and Jaegers. Fast forward 10 years, the war continued with an unexpected Villain and battle of new generation of Jaegers against a mega Kaijus. Fun watch with the evolving mythology, very good multi-ethnic young actors and special effects. Rate this film ★★★½ as good as the original.

It started out differently and decently enough but John Boyega can only carry a movie for so long. Notwithstanding his performance this movie quickly devolved into Transformer / Power Ranger territory. Not recommended.

Good brainless fun definitely geared more towards kids than the original.

Unbelievable! but something to watch that does not have sex or bad language in it. so it was okay and Scott Eastwood is cute!

Big disappointment. I nearly turned it off when, right off the bat, it had one of my least favourite cliche/tropes of the young genius orphan with an attitude, but I persevered hoping it would get better - it didn't. The plot was thin at best - like tissue paper in the rain: poke at it even a little bit and it just falls apart. Was only a very flimsy frame to have a bunch of robots fighting.

WOOF. This movie.

I came into this movie absolutely loving the first (and its director, Guillermo del Toro). Originally, GdT said he wanted the sequel to take the fight to the Precursors in their dimension.

Then GdT left and with him went his vision and all of his passion for the franchise.

This film is set up in an off in-between time. After the first film but before the planned eventual war with the Precursors. That made me ask multiple times in the theater, "Why does this movie exist? It's peace time...there's nothing going on."

But don't let that make you think the writers didn't try their damndest to manufacture a reason for this film (that falls completely flat). Seriously, every scene between characters feels like dialogue from a Michael Bay movie. *shudders*

Was the first movie cheesy? Yes. But the first movie KNEW it was cheesy. It KNEW it was a big smash 'em up robots and monsters movie. This sequel doesn't know what it wants to be and treads water in a pool of average.

ANYWAY, I won't spoil anything. Suffice to say that this film was a massive disappointment for me as a fan of the first. Sure, it has somewhat enjoyable action scenes involving giant robots and monsters...but that's about it.

Opening dialogue:

My generation, born in a state of war. Giant monsters attack our world. We call it Kaiju. They enter through a hole, a bridge to another dimension. At the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Sent by another race from another world.
Precursor. To fight it we make our own monster .. Jaeger. The giant robot, so big that it takes two pilots to control it. My father is one of them. He separated himself, to save the others. I .. I'm not my father. It's been 10 years since we won the war. And close the hole. Most of this world has been rebuilt. But some cities can not do it. And the world is still picking up the pieces. Some of us live better on broken boats. And living in a half-lived mansion, much better than a bad apartment. And to live here you have to be creative. You have to cheat others to get breakfast. And a new pastry.
