I really enjoyed the mix of hard core action, espionage, and the interplay of the factions. The lack of understanding between the humans and allies, and their opponents is brilliant and believable.

David Weber style galactic military fiction with lots of fleet battles etc. White strings his sentences together better than Weber, but it's pretty much the same although Weber's main characters are usually more appealing. Lots of fairly wooden characters with aliens who are much more behaviorly rigid than human beings, ie they have rigid caste/religious/instinctual behavior patterns. But it's OK to read if you like the military genre. There will be more coming after this the 6th in the Starfire series and I'll likely read them if the library gets them.
